Unless we are engaging with relevant policy, much of the research we are processing in the news has been reproduced, which leaves a margin for illusionary belief. The implications of misinformation are many, namely greater fears of mistrust. In this episode, we spoke with Mark Weisbrot from the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) about the importance of generating democratic debate through engagement with economic and policy research.

The Power of Statistics in the Fight Against Climate Change

In 2006, a study conducted by the CEPR concluded that carbon emissions produced by Western Europe were 25% less than those put out by the United States. The bulk of this research alluded to Americans working longer hours, with less vacation time and a focus on producing and consuming more consumer goods. Mark Weisbrot emphasized the importance of creating research of this magnitude to more effectively demonstrate the role of policy choices in generating climate change, in addition to opening up the debate for continued research down the line.
