Diabetes affects billions of people worldwide, and is recognized as a pandemic without a cure. It has different types, from the autoimmune variant Type I, to acquired Type II and gestational diabetes. In this episode we talk with Sean Kramer from the Diabetes Research Institute about finding a cure for this terrible disease. 

Race To Find The Cure To Diabetes

Global health expenditure for those afflicted with Diabetes now runs at about $760 billion USD; it affects not only those that have the disease, but also families and entire communities - even going so far as to say that it is a worldwide recognized crisis. While there is variance in the severity of the disease, with those that have it still living full lives through exercises and a healthy diet, for some it can be debilitating - sight and mobility are the first to be impacted, adversely affecting quality of life.

Kramer argues that it needs to be addressed by racing to find a cure. This is what the institute has been doing for half a century, with some breakthroughs here and there especially in treating it and helping others live with it, but the cure is still not available.
