51% of all students in public schools come from a low-income background. These students lack the leadership, motivation, work ethic, and role models to succeed academically. These children lack individualized support to achieve their dreams. In today's episode, we talked with Eugena Oh, President and CEO of I Have A Dream Foundation.
They are a nonprofit organization that has empowers children to succeed for nearly four decades. The organization empowers children from under-resourced communities to graduate from college by equipping them with the skills and knowledge to make it through school and high school.
Giving Every Child A Chance
The goal of the organization is for every child to succeed academically. They do this by giving low-income students academic support. They have a range of programs that start from elementary school all the way to college graduation. The program lasts for 13 years, giving dreamers the tuition assistance they might be lacking at school or at home.
Eugena says that giving every child equal access to education will make their dreams a reality. But it's not only educational support that results in success. Eugena says they also offer emotional support to young people to tap into their innate potential. Over the years, the organization has serviced 18,000 dreamers. 90% of dreamers graduate high school, with many of them successfully finishing college.
