Big companies genetically modify seeds and restrict farmers' access to non-GMO and organic seeds. Our governments permit these companies to enact "organic standards" that show to have long-lasting effects on consumers. GMO seeds and industrial meat and dairy processing contain toxic pesticides, antibiotics, and other drugs harmful to public health. That's why in today's episode, we talked with Alexis Baden-Mayer, Political Director at the Organic Consumers Association.
The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) is a non-profit organization that advocates for the promotion of organic food and sustainable agriculture practices. Founded in 1998, the OCA aims to protect the environment, public health, and consumers by promoting organic farming, fair trade, and food safety.
A Fight to Safeguard Organic Standards
The organization is dedicated to fighting against genetically modified organisms (GMOs), harmful pesticides, and other harmful practices that threaten the health of consumers. Through campaigns, education, and grassroots organizing, the OCA seeks to empower consumers and promote a healthy, sustainable food system for all.
In addition, the organization supports purely organic methods for crop farming and industrial; meat and dairy production. They believe national organic standards must go "beyond organic" to satisfy the health needs of consumers worldwide.
