There Are Many Misconceptions About Food Banks
Contrary to popular belief, food banks aren’t just for people living below the breadline. One of the greatest myths, David explains, is that going to school, getting a job and working hard is a recipe for guaranteed success. Many of the people who rely on food banks like Redwood Empire are working two or even three jobs. In reality, food banks are there to feed people across a fairly broad income spectrum who need differing levels of assistance.
Redwood Empire Food Bank helps a hundred thousand people a year. It takes 75 percent of its food directly to local people and works with 175 partner organizations that serve food for them.
