Being separated from the rest of the country presents extremely difficult challenges to these communities. Not only that, but these communities face all kinds of other challenges. From lacking means to look after marginalized children to basic health care and lack of economic opportunities, the challenges are far too many.
Tanzanian Children’s Fund wants to make fundamental changes for a community of 10,000 people. Through the Rift Valley Children’s Village and two schools, they provide youth care to children in need.

Tanzanian Children’s Fund Empowers a New Generation Of Tanzanians

Generational poverty is one of the biggest issues rural Tanzania is facing. Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world. In 2020, the national poverty rate declined by 0.7%, bringing the poverty rate at 25.7%. In rural Tanzania, things are even more difficult. In today's episode, we talked with Ali Carey from the Tanzania Childrens Fund and how they create change.
The Growing Problems Rural Tanzanian Communities Face
Tanzanian Children's Fund utilizes a holistic approach focused on education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. They are a nonprofit organization with an education program in the top 4% of the country. The success of this program creates real and lasting change for thousands of Tanzanian children. They co-manage two schools, the Gyetighi Primary School and Oldeani Secondary School.
The need to build these schools came by addressing systemic poverty in rural Tanzania to improve the well-being of young Tanzanians. Ali says that their community is located 45 minutes from the nearest paved road.
This creates immensely difficult challenges. The Tanzanian Children's Fund overcomes these challenges by building up the local economy and providing care and well being to marginalized children. Therefore the Tanzanian Children's Fund caters to an entire community. They take on a holistic approach to providing children with access to high-quality education in hopes of fighting generational poverty. The two schools serve over 950 students.
So far, they have impacted the lives of more than 10,000 people, of which 6,400 are children. By partnering with the local governments, the Tanzanian Children's Fund hopes to build two additional schools in their local district.
They work hand in hand with local authorities to provide access to free healthcare, education, and early childhood care. Not only that, but they strengthen relationships with their community by giving marginalized children and foster children a loving home and family. They provide a permanent home for 102 foster children through the Rift Valley Children's Village.
Their childhood care programs in the Oldeani community have resulted in an enormous economic opportunity and helped identify bright spots and enhance positive service experiences among children.
