Nuclear power plants leave a very tiny environmental footprint compared to coal plants. What we get in return are much larger amounts of energy. While other green sources, like wind and solar, are becoming hugely popular, they produce nowhere near the same energy as nuclear and advanced nuclear energy. Because of that, there has to be a conversation around transitioning away from fossil fuels and into nuclear. And in today's episode, we talked with Kristy Gogan, Founding Director and Co-CEO of TerraPraxis to explore this topic in detail.
TerraPraxis is a non-profit organization on a mission to change the conversation around nuclear power in North America and Europe. They believe the true path to human prosperity is moving away from the global coal fleet and into nuclear. As a result, they spearhead the conversation around nuclear power.
A Conversation That Must be Held
Kristy says that 99.9% of climate philanthropy is focused on renewables and energy efficiency. Sadly, we aren't making enough progress on reducing emissions, and the current methods aren't easily scalable solutions. She says the need to decarbonize coal facilities is the right approach, but the reluctance to replace coal with nuclear power must change.
As a result, they are fighting for institutional change to accelerate the deployment of nuclear technology as a form of emission-free energy.
