It’s no secret that not all in the United States experience the full freedom of living in the “land of the free”. Some are still judged by the color of their skin, their background or their political party. Racial inequity is still an ongoing problem, and many are not able to exercise rights that were theirs in the first place. In this episode we talk with Timna Axel from Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights about championing equality in the US.
Civil Rights For All
A good chunk of the US’ population is people of color. Sadly, they are disproportionately prevented from exercising their rights, for example by being blocked from g accessing the ballot due to language barriers and discriminatory laws. Some cannot access economic opportunities that white and wealthier individuals can in the US, and worse still - civil rights that should be readily accessible for everyone - seems to be a privilege instead of a right. Axel along with Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights serves as the legal muscle to fight for the rights that people of color should enjoy without any discrimination.
