Large companies often make a lot of noise about their commitment to protecting the environment. But in reality, profits tend to trump ethics. Many companies try to expand their enterprises by forcing through developments and legislation that run counter to a local community’s best interests. 
In this episode we talked with Karen Guillory from Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide about the importance of presenting robust scientific and legal challenges to exploitative and harmful environmental practices.

A Legal Fight Between David And Goliath

The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide is a network of legal professionals, scientists and other advocates that help communities pursue legal justice against polluters of the air and waterways and exploiters of the land. 
This year, ELAW celebrates its 30th anniversary. The organization has been relationship-focused since its inception, pursuing an alliance of common environmental interests against well-funded corporations. ELAW has partners in more than 80 different countries.

Putting Forward A Case For The Planet

Karen explains that when local communities blow the whistle on environmentally damaging projects, ELAW scientists provide expert testimony about the impacts to communities and ecosystems affected. They are often able to recommend cleaner alternatives, backed up by ELAW’s experienced legal team.
