Everyone becomes inspired by different causes at different stages of their life. And there’s nothing more rewarding than volunteering to support an initiative that’s recently moved you. In this episode we talked with Brian Dean from Jersey Cares about the importance of finding a fulfilling and mutually rewarding volunteer placement.
Jersey Cares offers a wide range of searchable volunteer opportunities. Many non-profits don’t know how they might use volunteers, which can be a barrier both for those who want to get involved and for the charities themselves. To get around this, Jersey Cares recruits volunteers and plans and manages projects for them. When a nonprofit has the capacity, they can be sent trained volunteers directly.
Brian explains that the goal is to have people coming back for more, because volunteering should be rewarding, not a waste of time. The volunteering schedule is flexible and the system simple to use. You can browse a menu of all of the projects, searchable by keyword, or pull up a calendar which shows you what's going on on a particular day. From there, it’s as simple as signing up to do a project that takes your fancy.
