Pregnancy, periods and abortions - such topics of conversation can be taboo even in developed nations with advanced healthcare systems and relatively liberal laws. In this episode we talked with Shaylyn Stanley from Pathfinder International about the importance of spreading information about reproductive health.

Pathfinder International currently operates in some of the farthest-flung communities in around 20 countries. They work with regional clinics, equipping healthcare workers to teach local women about reproductive health and pregnancy, using the most effective communications channels available and acknowledging cultural sensitivities. 

Shaylyn explains that wider access to accurate information about pregnancy, contraception and family planning is the key to empowering these women. It’s important to chip away at the stigma keeping them in the dark about their bodies, which often has deep socio-cultural or religious roots. By improving messaging around reproductive health, we help women avoid tragic complications stemming from unsafe abortions or pregnancies.
