In NJ, plenty of individuals do have the odds stacked against them - 6% of the population are well below the extreme poverty line. To make matters worse, around 14% of available jobs are low-wage professions that make it extremely hard to rise above the vicious cycle of poverty. Mainor argues that these individuals and their families might need a little helping hand to get them back on track; creating avenues for self-sufficiency such as helping folks out with housing and food, and especially with the correct mindset, is what is needed to help bring people out of poverty and dependency.
