Slot of the Week: Cash Machine

Named after the much-used “hole in the wall” that dishes out the dosh, our Slot of the Week, Cash Machine, promises payouts in a unique “win what you see” way, with two additional features ready to splash the cash in your direction!
Though it may seem like a simple 3-reel stepper, Cash Machine is no ordinary slot, with its single payline setup hiding a much more tailorable experience and two special features that turn up the win-potential on both winning and non-winning spins!
In Short:
- Cash Machine is a single payline online slot by Everi
- It is available to play at 13 New Jersey online casinos including Golden Nugget, SugarHouse, Unibet Casino, and Pala Casino.
- Features of this slot include 1-3 reel selection, “win what you see” payouts, and two respins bonuses.
- The maximum payout of Cash Machine is 10,500x bet (up to $105,000).
The Basics
Cash Machine is a very simple, stepper-style online slot that was released by Everi in mid-2020. Rather than wowing players with complex themes, characters, animations, numerous symbols, and loads of features, Cash Machine keeps things very straightforward with just a single payline and a small selection of cash multiples as win amounts. It’s the simplicity of this game that keeps players consistently coming back for more.
First Impressions
When the game loads, you’ll be presented with a silver metallic designed drum inside which the game’s three reels are housed. Two oval shaped holes on the left and right reveal the 1st and 3rd reels’ symbols, with a more ornate opening showing the central reel’s symbol. Offsetting the silver nicely is a lush green reminiscent of the old American greenbacks, with fonts and scrolling decoration to match.
The overarching theme of this slot is as the name implies, with each spin of the reels emitting the whirring sound of an issuing cash machine. Wins are announced with a rising tinkly trill and the slot’s two respins features are given a more dramatic audio accompaniment to illustrate their increased win-potential.
Hinting at the simplicity of this game is the tagline “win what you see”, which is one of the big pulls of Cash Machine.
Symbols
As you may have noticed, only numbers feature on the reels of this slot, with blank spaces and valueless small diamond shapes occupying the other positions on the reels.
Each reel contains certain numbers as follows:
- Reel 1: 1, 2, 5, and 10
- Reel 2: 0 and 5
- Reel 3: 0, 5, and 00
These numbers represent the actual cash payouts you can expect to receive (multiplied by your denomination) and the benefit here is you don’t need to do any matching! We’ll cover the base game mechanics in the next section.
Cash Machine Features
Cash Machine has two different special features: Red Respin and Zero Respin. Since the basic mechanics of this game are a bit different to that of other slots, we’ll take a closer look at them before delving into the two respins features.
Basic Gameplay
Cash Machine allows you to choose what kind of experience you’ll have by giving you the option to play one, two, or all three reels. You can do this by selecting 1, 5, or 10 under Bet Level, respectively. If you choose to play just one reel, only the leftmost reel will be active. Selecting two reels activates the leftmost and middle reels, and opting for all three activates the trio.
As you’ve probably guessed, since each reel only features specific number symbols, the number of reels you choose to play determines how much you can win:
- Maximum win on one reel: 10
- Maximum win on two reels: 105
- Maximum win on three reels: 10,500
Choosing the Bet Level allows you to select how many reels you want to play and while increasing this puts up your actual bet amount, it isn’t used itself in calculating your wins. That is where the bet denomination, named Denom, comes in. Displayed above the Bet Level option, the Denom can be $1 or $10 and it’s this value that’s multiplied by the symbol numbers to give your final payout for the spin.
That might seem a little complicated, but it isn’t! Here’s an example of some final payouts with both $1 and $10 denominations:
Symbols | $1 Denom | $10 Denom |
2 | $2 | $20 |
50 | $50 | $500 |
105 | $105 | $1,050 |
To put it another way, two variables are used to set your bet amount — Bet Level and Denom. Bet Level lets you choose how many reels to play and Denom is the actual bet value used to determine your payout.
Red Respin
Of the two features in this game, the Red Respin is the randomly triggered one. This feature can occur after any winning spin and results in any active reel that doesn’t contain a number respinning to potentially give a bigger win than the triggering one.
You’ll only get this feature by playing with two or three reels, but you can end up triggering up to two respins here, and when you combine that with the fact that the reels are slightly more weighted in your favor, you can end up winning a substantial amount. The image above shows us managing to trigger a payout of $1,000 from a $100 initial win via this feature!
Zero Respin
In contrast, the Zero Respin feature is triggered after any losing spin that features a 0 or 00. The remaining reels will respin for a shot at a payout, which will end the feature. Land another 0 or 00, however, and you’ll get another respin.
Since there are no 0 or 00 symbols on reel one, you cannot trigger this feature when playing with just one reel. Playing with two reels will give you up to two respins and playing all three reels could result in up to three respins. The image above shows us triggering the feature with the 0 on reel three, which resulted in a payout of $100.
Cash Machine Payouts
Such an unusual payout structure demands further exploration, especially if you want to be able to work out how much you’ve won by yourself.
The basics are illustrated by the image above in “win what you see” style, except the displayed value is multiplied by your chosen Denom of $1 or $10.
Here are all the different possible payout values for the two Denom options:
Symbol combination | $1 Denom | $10 Denom |
1 | $1 | $10 |
2 | $2 | $20 |
5 | $5 | $50 |
10 | $10 | $100 |
15 | $15 | $150 |
20 | $20 | $200 |
25 | $25 | $250 |
50 | $50 | $500 |
55 | $55 | $550 |
100 | $100 | $1,000 |
105 | $105 | $1,050 |
150 | $150 | $1,500 |
155 | $155 | $1,550 |
200 | $200 | $2,000 |
205 | $205 | $2,050 |
250 | $250 | $2,500 |
255 | $255 | $2,550 |
500 | $500 | $5,000 |
505 | $505 | $5,050 |
550 | $550 | $5,500 |
555 | $555 | $5,550 |
1,000 | $1,000 | $10,000 |
1,005 | $1,005 | $10,050 |
1,050 | $1,050 | $10,500 |
1,055 | $1,055 | $10,550 |
1,500 | $1,500 | $15,000 |
2,000 | $2,000 | $20,000 |
2,500 | $2,500 | $25,000 |
5,000 | $5,000 | $50,000 |
5,500 | $5,500 | $55,000 |
10,000 | $10,000 | $100,000 |
10,500 | $10,500 | $105,000 |
As you can see, the most you can win playing with a $1 Denom is $10,500, which goes up to $105,000 if you switch to a $10 Denom. In both cases this assumes you’re playing all three reels. Playing with fewer reels will result in lower payouts.
Cash Machine RTP and Volatility
So does this unusual slot have equally unusual payouts and frequencies compared to those of other slots? In order to make this comparison, we need to use two measurements: Return to Player (RTP) and Volatility (or Variance).
RTP is the percentage of played funds that is paid out to players over the long term. It helps to think of this as the opposite of the house edge. Though the game itself doesn’t specify it, the RTP of Cash Machine is understood to be 96%, which is right on average for the industry. That means it’s an attractive game to play in terms of payouts.
The Volatility of a slot is the balance between small, frequent wins and larger, less frequent wins. The scale runs from Low to High, with low volatility slots paying out in a stable way, while the payouts of high volatility slots can vary wildly in both amount and frequency. When it comes to Cash Machine, there isn’t a stated rank when it comes to the title’s volatility. However, after our review, we estimate the game to be medium volatility, which means you’re likely to see a fairly good balance in terms of payout amounts and frequencies.
Ready to Visit the Cash Machine?
Cash Machine is a really unique slot the likes of which you’ve probably never seen before. Its simplistic stepper-style design with three reels and a single payline belies a slightly more complex but beneficial payout mechanism that many players appreciate.
Moving away from colorful themes and character-driven content, Cash Machine puts the greenbacks at the center with simple numbers serving as both the game’s symbols and their respective payouts. The fact that you can tailor the game to your liking by choosing to play one, two, or all three reels is also rather appealing.
Though many players will be put off by the blank spots on the reels, it’s worth playing through this irritation to experience the unique base game mechanics. Even greater win-potential is available through the two features, with one triggered at random after a winning spin and the other started by landing a 0 or 00 on a non-winning spin. This is a one-of-a-kind slot that really is worth a few spins!
Cash Machine is available to play at many of the top New Jersey online casinos including Golden Nugget, SugarHouse, Unibet Casino, and Pala Casino.
