A person that lives in poverty faces untold difficulties. While the causes of poverty are many, the effects can be extremely damaging. Living in poverty puts you on a fast track to addiction and a criminal record. Even more so, Cincinnati has very few opportunities for people living in poverty. With no reliable transportation, limited job opportunities, and dozens of other obstacles, the solution for getting people out of poverty falls on deaf ears. That's why in today's episode, we talked with Adam White, Director of Employment Services at Cincinnati Works.
Cincinnati Works is a nonprofit organization for job seekers and employers. They partner with employers in desperate need of a workforce. Even employers in Cincinnati are struggling with high turnover, burned-out HR, and numerous other obstacles. So Cincinnati Works acts as a solution for both job seekers and employers.
Connecting Job Seekers and Employers
The organization provides a solution to both sides. They also believe in the power of taking a single step, where getting a job is the first step to getting your life back. 80% of Cincinnati Works members come from a background of poverty. But 70% of their members are happy with their new employment and are able to hold it for a year or more.
This is all due to their numerous programs such as their job readiness program, outreach to at-risk groups program, financial coach program, phoenix program, etc. Through these programs, they prepare job seekers by teaching virtual skills. Their ultimate goal is to partner job seekers with local employers.
