Recent statistics show New York City has 60,250 homeless people, of which 19,310 are homeless children. These people and children take shelter each night in the city’s main municipal shelter system. However, that’s not enough to cover the needs of all homeless people and children. It is estimated that only 30% of homeless people sleep in shelters each night.
