Meat, dairy and egg production is notorious for its inhumane and unethical treatment of animals; however business is booming and changes in industry standards are limited-to-non-existent. Despite knowing that standards are poor, we - consumers - actively choose to blind ourselves from the realities of the industry. But why are animals treated as such? In this episode we spoke with Kelcie Leach, the program director of Animal Place, about the importance of animal sanctuaries in the fight towards animal protection and plant-based diets.

In the last 30 years, 32,000 farm animals have been rescued and placed in a protective sanctuary at Animal Place. Much of the reason these rescues have to take place is due to the relationships we have with animals traditionally raised for consumption - if they were given names and personalities, similar to our domesticated animals, we might view these beings differently. Kelcie Leach explains that the mission of Animal Place to provide sanctuary to animals and educate consumers on the tangible effects of meat, dairy and egg industries on the environment, our health and on animals themselves.
