But the burden to help hungry residents falls on the shoulder of nonprofit organizations and charities. That's why in today's episode, we talked with Monica White, President & CEO of Food Share Ventura County.
Food Share Ventura County is a nonprofit organization that works with 160 nonprofits and similar partners to collect and distribute food to those who need it the most in Ventura County. They work by collecting excess and donated food and processing it in their Oxnard warehouses. From there, the food gets distributed to food pantries and food banks to give to those who need it most.
Feeding the Hungry In Ventura County
Food Share Ventura County is making a real impact in fighting food insecurity in Ventura County. They manage to serve more than 190,000 people annually and process more than one million pounds of food each month. They work together with 160 pantry locations, regional food banks, and other partners to deliver fresh vegetables, canned goods, fruits, and more.
They hope to fully serve the entire Ventura CA and look to partner with any regional food bank or food pantry that wants to make a difference. Feeding America is their goal, and they hope to start with Ventura County.
