There are currently over half a million people experiencing homelessness in the US, and this number has risen by almost one percent in recent years. In New Jersey alone, there are over 9,000 people without a home; including families, children, and people with physical and cognitive disabilities. In this episode, we talked with Bob Franklin from Atlantic City Rescue Mission about their holistic approach to alleviating homelessness and financial challenges in Atlantic City and the surrounding area.
Sharing Inner Hope to Get People Back on their Feet
Homelessness is not a choice, it is a state brought upon someone as a result of societal issues and a lack of supportive structures. Franklin explains how Atlantic City Rescue Mission (ACRM) operate using their christian values as a foundation; caring for all in the community and spreading messages of hope. As well as providing the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter, ACRM guide people back to wholeness by enrolling them into their structured programs and referring them to community services. They register people and work with them to distinguish their individual needs; whether it’s mental or physical health support, preparations for entering the workforce or help to find permanent housing.
