Sterling Burnett from The Heartland Institute about how his organization persuades legislators to champion liberty, opportunity and sound economic planning. 

Keeping Governments In Check

The Heartland Institute is a non-profit free market research and education organization based in Illinois. They aim to equip lawmakers with relevant and effective policy solutions to a wide range of domestic issues, from the environment and energy to healthcare and tax. 

Burnett explains that markets have proven themselves a superior provider of wealth, goods and services to other forms of economic development, more readily satisfying the many choices we make. The Heartland Institute interacts with state legislators and state agencies on a regular basis to make sure that laws are fit for purpose and are not infringing on our rights to make those choices. Their solutions look beyond clumsy centralized responses and empower individuals and local communities to decide what works best for them.
