John Tracy Center Helps Children Overcome Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is an issue that can hinder the development of children. In today's episode, we talked with Cathleen Mathes, President of the John Tracy Center for infants and preschool children with hearing loss. The center is a private, nonprofit organization that provides young deaf children and children ages zero to 18 with comprehensive educational services. They have a variety of programs to help families and children develop speech language and listening skills and overcome hearing loss.
Helping Parents Navigate the Journey
John Tracy Center offers parent-centered services, where the parents ultimately make the final choice. Through support groups, therapists, and teachers available for early intervention, parents can sign up for education programs to help their children overcome hearing loss. The ultimate goal of the John Tracy Center is to offer families hope. They are one of the biggest education centers in Southern California for spoken language skills and spoken language education.
Cathleen explains that hearing loss can be detected the moment a child is born. If the doctor does detect any kind of hearing problem, parents can go to the John Tracy Center and join their support programs. Cathleen also says that children diagnosed with hearing loss who receive early intervention by six months of age stand a much better chance to overcome social and emotional issues.
The John Tracy Center is one of the world's largest private providers of services to hearing-impaired children. Through hearing screenings and deaf education, parents get the right type of early intervention necessary to improve their children's chances of overcoming these issues.
