Seminole's geographical location makes it an ideal place to live. This is due to being one hour away from Disney World in Florida. Thanks to this central location, a lot of people and workers want to move in. But finding affordable housing is difficult to come by. That's why in today’s episode, we talked with Penny Seater, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Seminole Apopka.
Habitat for Humanity Seminole Apopka is a nonprofit organization. The organization’s mission is providing low-income families with affordable housing in Seminole County and Greater Apopka. The organization relies on the goodwill of neighbors to find suitable, long-term housing to elevate the community and replace overcrowded and expensive living conditions with affordable ones.
A Place for Everyone to Call Home
Families that get selected for affordable housing must meet certain criteria. The first and most important is the income-based criteria. Next, families must pass the housing need criteria. Finally, if families get approved, the process of building their new homes begins.
This is the organization's approach to helping families move out of their existing homes and into new and affordable ones. Over the past three decades, the organization has helped build 200 homes for 200 families.
