Corruption Leads to Political Stagnation
Shockingly, the USA has not updated its ethics laws in almost 50 years. This means that politicians don’t always act in the country’s best interest. It is important to determine who is financing and donating to elected officials, to hold them accountable for their actions. CREW makes Freedom of Information Act requests to expose corruption and files lawsuits that can stop any malpractice they uncover.
Jenna explains that CREW acts as a watchdog, standing up for the individual voter in the face of a nebulous legal system. Politicians like Congress and Federal officials often breach the Hatch Act - a law designed to prevent them from using taxpayers’ money to fund political campaigns CREW strives for more robust regulations so that future governments cannot abuse their power in the same way.
