For most of us, it’s very easy to go about and about with our daily lives. Cooking a meal, driving a car or seeing and hearing things is mundane and everyday fare. But this is not the case for every 6-10 people in a crowd of 100. Some are people with disabilities, and have to adapt to a world built for people with complete limbs, with perfect hearing and eye-sight. In this episode, we talk with Katerina Mavrou from AAATE about championing the development and use of new technology to assist people with disabilities and give them a new lease on life.

Assistive Technology For The People With Disabilities

While assistive technology for people with disabilities already exists, they can be quite expensive, and the platform to accommodate their use and development is proving to be a challenge. Besides development, lack of awareness for assistive technology is also hindering in making these assistive technologies mainstream and accessible. Mavrou explains that in order to make assistive technology better, it needs to be part of the conversations that we have in society; it needs to be promoted, so that research and development can flourish, and the sharing of ideas in the industry has to be encouraged. AAATE is the platform by which to do exactly that.
