It is estimated that 160 million children are trapped in child labor globally. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of organizations and governments, the number of child laborers worldwide has increased by eight million in 2020. Most notably, children from Asia, the Pacific countries, and Africa are the biggest victims of this notoriously disgusting practice. That's why in today's episode, we talked with Nina Smith, CEO of GoodWeave.
GoodWeave International is a nonprofit organization that aims to end child labor in all its forms. They are on a mission to expose the dangers of illegal child labor and bounded labor and eradicate it from the world.
A World Free of Child Labor
GoodWeave has partner companies in more than 20 countries and programs in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Their team of business-minded experts advocates for social change and to end all kinds of child labor in the global supply chains.
Nina says that one in ten children is laboring in today's global economy. These children can be as young as five and as old as seventeen. Most often, these children work in hazardous conditions that directly harm their physical, mental, and moral well-being. GoodWeave works in the rug, home textile, apparel, brick, and fashion jewelry sectors to provide educational opportunities to affected victims.
