Haiti has a serious malnutrition problem. One in five Haitian children is malnourished, while one in fifteen dies by the age of five. Haiti finds itself in this position due to a series of political coups in the late 80s and early 90s. The political instability left Haiti in a world of trouble as the country lacks sustainable economic development. Poverty ravages the island, and pregnant and nursing women take the brunt of it.
