These individuals may face greater health risks, reduced health outcomes, and a lower quality of life compared to those with insurance coverage. That's why in today's episode, we talked with Keith Maples, Chief Development Officer at Neighborhood Health Clinic.
Neighborhood Health Clinic is a nonprofit organization delivering medical care to low-income, working, uninsured adults in Collier County. The clinics' primary focus is to provide healthcare services to individuals from low-income backgrounds working at least 20 hours per week. Keith says individuals with no access to insurance or government healthcare must get the primary care needed to stay healthy.
The 32,000-square-foot campus clinic also strives to be a comprehensive healthcare provider, offering primary care, specialty care, medications, labs, imaging, behavioral health, and dental services. They aim to create a nurturing and supportive environment where patients feel appreciated and receive all the necessary care within one facility.
Health Equity Through Community
The clinic recognizes the significant need for healthcare services in the community, especially for the working-class population in Collier County. By providing medical care to individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford it, the clinic contributes to the well-being of the community as a whole.
The clinic is funded through private philanthropy rather than relying on government agencies. They collaborate with organizations like Naples Community Hospital and Physicians Regional Hospital to provide specialized care when needed. They also leverage partnerships with pharmaceutical companies to secure medication donations.
Their work has resulted in 12,000 patient visits in 2022 alone. They have more than 700 volunteers, including physicians, nurses, dentists, and translators, providing quality health care and additional services to the wider Collier community.
