Northern Virginia’s safety net took a hard hit, with many businesses going bust and families ending up in poverty. Low income neighborhoods were especially affected by the pandemic. So the need for food banks and food pantries to distribute food from groceries falls on the hand of charities.
Food For Others mobilizes the community to distribute food for those in need. Through donations, community partners programs, and volunteers, Food For Others helps families affected by COVID with food and resources.

More than 70,000 people in Northern Virginia are living in poverty, with 30% being children. Hundreds of thousands of people have inadequate food supplies and food insecurity. The need for food donations and food programs has never been more important. In today's episode, we talked with Leo Delgado, warehouse supervisor at Food For Others.
Food For Others is a nonprofit organization that works with other community-based organizations to deliver food and supplies to families in need. The organization has a number of programs that distribute free food, prevent food waste, and cooperate with other community-based organizations.
Helping Northern Virginians With Food Insecurities
Families with food insecurities oftentimes sacrifice their daily nutritional needs. This isn't an optimal way of living, says Leo. By reducing the quality of their food, these families aren't able to live healthy lives.
Food For Others organizes free food deliveries to warehouses and distributes them to other organizations. The organization obtains these so-called free groceries from major grocery stores. Leo says that there is nothing wrong with the food, only that it isn't presentable in stores. So through their food program, Food For Others takes the unpresentable food and distributes it to the community.
Through their many programs, they help beat food insecurity in Northern Virginia. Food For Others also relies on volunteers. Volunteers come in and help deliver food to families in need. As a nonprofit organization, they encourage others to help with the ongoing emergency food shortage.
