How do we stop species from going extinct?

Last Monday, 200 species went extinct. Last Tuesday, 200 species went extinct. Tomorrow, another 200 species will become extinct.

According to the UN, 200 Species go extinct every day. How do we stop this? 

That’s the question that WildlifeDirect asks themselves every day.

In today’s episode of Great.com Talks with, our host Spirit speaks with Mary Morrison, who works advocating for animal rights at WildlifeDirect in Kenya. 

Back in 2014, WildlifeDirect, together with the First Lady of Kenya, managed to push for a law that made it harder for illegal hunters to commit wildlife crimes such as killing elephants. Even though elephant hunting has been illegal in Kenya since 1973, the justice system has been ineffective resulting in many illegal offenders not getting a penalty. Following the 2013 law, elephant and rhino poaching declined by over 80%. 

Mary believes that in order to protect animals, we need to change the behavior of humans.
