Golfers need caddies to excel at the sport. But not much is said about these men and women. The work of a caddie is thankless. So one way to give back is to support them through college. In today's episode, we talked with Colin McGuire, Executive Director at Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund.
The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund is a need-based scholarship since 1949. They give scholarships to deserving men and women that work on Massachusetts golf courses. Throughout the years, they've given scholarships to 6,325 deserving men and women.
One Way To Give Back
Colin says that the Ouimet fund has given $43 million in scholarships. They accept men and women who've worked on Massachusetts golf courses as caddies for more than two years. In addition, anyone that's worked as a course superintendent at any golf course in Massachusetts is eligible.
Ouimet scholars graduate with an annual GPA of 3.5, and the graduation rate is an astonishing 92%. The Ouimet Scholarship program gives more options to the men and women that sacrifice their time and effort to make the sport better.
