Which casino offers the Highest RTP?

In many slots, the casinos can decide what RTP the game should have. Many casinos offers a high RTP on some games, while they give you a low RTP on others. This means that when you are comparing RTP between different casinos, it’s important to look at many different games.

We have chosen 10 popular games, then we look at the average RTP on these 10 games and compare based on that. Click show more if you want to see which games we are comparing.

The 10 games we selected were not chosen at random — they are 10 of the most popular online slots and they are from several different popular slot game providers. This should give a good overview of how a specific casino distributes the RTP on all of their games. If the RTP is high on these 10 games, it’s likely to be high on most other games in that casino. If RTP is low on these games, it’s likely to be low on most other games in that casino.

To answer the question of which slot has the highest RTP it’s good to start with some limitations. There are lots of games with very high RTP, but where the games are old, boring, ugly, have weird functionalities or for other reasons might not be popular to play. Because of this, games like that doesn’t add a lot of value to a top list even if they technically are the ones with the highest RTP.

What is RTP & Why is it Important?

IMPORTANT: 92% RTP is half as much as 96% RTP (!!)

That 92% should be half as much as 96% sounds really weird. But it’s true! I will soon explain how this works, but first lets just understand the basics of RTP.

What is Return To Player (RTP)? Simply put, it is about how much money goes to winnings. Which at the same time shows how much money does not go to winnings, but goes to the company that organizes the game.

A clear example of this is scratch cards. Scratch cards often have an RTP of 50%. This means that 50% goes to winnings, and 50% goes to the company that sells the tickets.

However, this does not mean that all tickets have exactly 50% RTP, but on average, they have 50% RTP.

Imagine a company manufactures 10 tickets and sells them for $10 each, totalling $100.

9 of the tickets are non-winning tickets.

1 of the tickets is a $50 winning ticket.

This means that $50 goes to winnings, and $50 goes to the company, that is, 50% in winnings (RTP), and 50% to the company.

However, this does not mean that each ticket will have a $5 win, but most are losses and one is a winning ticket.

It could also be 8 non-winning tickets.

2 winning tickets with $25 in winnings per ticket, thus totalling $50 in winnings.

RTP is only about how much of the money goes to winnings, not how the winnings are distributed.

If the RTP had been 90% instead of 50%, then there would have been $90 in winnings and only $10 to the company.

It could still have been 9 non-winning tickets and one winning ticket, but then the winning ticket would be $90 instead of $50.

Or the RTP could have been 20%, and only $20 would go to winnings and $80 would go to the company.

Then the only winning ticket would be $20 and all the others non-winning tickets.

It goes without saying that one would rather play a lottery where 90% goes to winnings than where 20% goes to winnings.

But regardless of which lottery you participate in, there is no guarantee that you will win.

RTP works just the same way in slots as it does in scratch tickets. The only difference is that a slot spin takes a few seconds, while a scratch ticket make take a minute or so. Most people play hundreds of spins on a slot machine, but only buy one or a few scratch cards. Since we play hundreds of spins on slots, it’s enough for the casino to have a few percent profit margin on each spin, it quickly adds up. But if the scratch tickets only had a few percent margin, the it would not be enough for the companies since we only scratch one or a few at ones.

Why is 92% RTP half as much as 96% RTP?

That 92% RTP would be half as much as 96% RTP sounds very strange, but it is actually true.

The reason it turns out this way is that the important thing to understand is how much money does NOT go to winnings all the time. In other words, how much the casino takes as its share of the pie in each game. What the casino takes is what you lose.

If the RTP is 92%, then the casino takes 8% for itself in each game. If the RTP is 96%, then it is 4% that the casino takes as its share. 8% is twice as much as 4%, which means you will lose your money twice as fast if you play with 92% RTP compared to if you play with 96% RTP.

The difference between 92% and 96% is therefore much, much larger than it appears at first glance.

To show this with an example we can imagine that we have $1000 and we want to see how many $1 spins we can play before we run out of money.

If we are playing a slot machine with 96% RTP, we will on average win $0.96 back on each spin and lose $0.04.

To calculate how many spins we would get on average, we can take $1000 we have and divide it by the average loss $0.04, and we will get: $1000 / $0.04 = 25 000 spins.

Let’s say we are chasing some kind of massive jackpot, this would give us 25 000 chances to get it.

Now instead we do the same math with 92% RTP. We will on average get $0.92 back, and on each spin lose on average $0.08.

Same math: $1000 / $0.08 = 12 500 spins.

This time we would only get 12 500 spins before we run out of money. 12 500 spins is half as much as 25 000. So 92% is actually half as much as 96% when it comes to RTP.

What is Casino Profit Margin?

This leads us to a term we are using in our toplists above – Casino Profit Margin. This is not a common phrase. The reason for this is that the casinos don’t want us to focus on their profit margin. They want us to focus on “Return To Player” because that sounds a lot better. It does, doesn’t it? You would rather play on a game that talks about what returns to the player, than the casinos profit margin, right?

“Casino Profit Margin” is just the other side of RTP, like we mention above. The part that Does NOT Return To Player.

It’s calculated like this:

Let’s say you wager $100 on a game with 95% RTP.

On average 95% = $95 will Return To Player in winnings.
On average 5% = $5 will NOT Return To Player, but become the Casino Profit Margin.

So the calculation is 100% – RTP = Casino Profit Margin.

We show this number to highlight the point made above, that 92% RTP is half as much as 96%. It becomes a lot more clear when you say 8% Casino Profit Margin is twice as much as 4% – which is the exact same thing as comparing 92% RTP with 96% RTP.

What is Volatility in Slots?

Volatility in slots is closely linked to RTP and is another important concept to understand. It’s not about what portion of the money goes to winnings, but rather how the winnings are distributed.

If we take the same example as before, 10 scratch tickets for $10 each, and 50% RTP, meaning $50 in winnings.

If a game is to have maximum volatility, then all the winnings go to 1 ticket that wins $50, and 9 non-winning tickets that win nothing.

If a game instead had minimal RTP, then all tickets would win equally. That is, $5 each. Which would make for a very boring lottery to play, because who would want to buy a ticket for $10 and always get $5 back?

To understand volatility further, we need to increase the number of tickets in the lottery. Instead of 10 tickets, it could be a million tickets. If the RTP is still 50%, then there would be $5 million in prize money.

If we take maximum volatility now, there would still be only 1 winning ticket, and 999,999 non-winning tickets. The only winning ticket would get $5 million and all others would get nothing.

That would probably not be a successful lottery either because who would want to play after losing on every ticket they bought for several years?

A successful lottery would have neither maximum nor minimal volatility but would be somewhere in the middle. Many tickets would give small winnings so the player feels they win sometimes, and a few would have huge prizes.

This is also how slots work. Often you win a little on your spins, and sometimes you hit a big win.

A slot with high volatility will more often miss completely and not give any winnings at all, or only very small ones, but when it hits, it hits big. An example of this is Book of Dead.

A slot with low volatility, on the other hand, will often give small winnings, but never any really big wins. An example of this is Starburst.

RTP makes a big difference, volatility is a matter of taste

What we can see here is that RTP makes a big difference. Whether 50% goes to winnings or 90% goes to winnings will make a huge difference for you as a player. Naturally, you want as much as possible to go to winnings.

Volatility, on the other hand, is a matter of taste. Whether you win small but often, or big but rarely, in the end, it doesn’t really matter. The amount of money will be the same. It just depends on what you find more enjoyable.

Therefore, it is very important to play games with high RTP if you want to increase your chances of winning, but whether you play with high or low volatility depends entirely on what you find most fun.

Will you always win more if you play with high RTP?

The short answer is no. High RTP doesn’t always mean more wins, but it does mean a better chance of winning.

If we take the first example of scratch cards again. Let’s say you first buy 9 tickets in the lottery that had 90% RTP. There was one ticket with $90 in winnings. But you are unlucky, you choose all 9 non-winning tickets. And you walk away with $0 and $90 lost.

Then you go to another kiosk and buy different tickets. Now you are in the lottery that only has 20% RTP. This time you buy just one ticket, but you get the winning ticket that had $20 in winnings. So you walk away with $20 in your pocket.

The same thing can happen when you play slots, you can be more unlucky even if the RTP is high, and you can be luckier even if the RTP is low. But the more you play, the more decisive RTP becomes.

If you were to buy 1000 tickets in each lottery and it was still 9 out of 10 that were non-winning tickets, then you would likely get 100 winning tickets in both lotteries. In one, you would get 100 tickets with $90 in winnings on each, in the other you would get 100 tickets with $20 in winnings on each. Even though you bought tickets for the same amount in both games.

So, RTP plays a very important role, and the more you play, the more important RTP becomes.

Is it better to play casino than scratch tickets?

If we take another step in our understanding of RTP, it becomes an interesting question why scratch cards have such low RTP and casinos have such high RTP.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that scratch cards are worse than casinos. It just means that if you buy ONE scratch card or do ONE spin on a slot machine, you will have a better chance of winning on the slot machine.

However, it is very rare for someone to just do one spin on a slot machine; usually, you might do 100 spins. On the other hand, it is very rare to buy 100 scratch cards; instead, you might just buy one card.

This means that the company selling a scratch card has to make all its money at once, in this case, 50% of the ticket price of $10.

A casino with an RTP of, say, 95% on its slot machine, earns an average of $0.5 on every $10 spin. So if you only spin once at the casino, the casino is much better than the scratch card. But if you spin 100 times, the casino wins an average of $0.5 per spin, and on 100 spins, they have won an average of $50, instead of just $5 if they had sold a scratch card.

So it sounds like the casino has a much higher chance of winning than scratch cards if you only compare RTP, but it also depends a lot on how long it takes to play. You might let a scratch card sit in your wallet for a few days before scratching it off slowly with a cup of coffee. At the casino, you spin at a much faster pace.

So one is not necessarily better than the other, and it’s not so easy to say which has the highest chance of winning just by looking at RTP. It’s simply a matter of preference.
